Happy Two Year Anniversary to my most amazing fiance! 😍
We spent the weekend staying in the city for the long weekend and it was absolutely lovely.
The first night, we finished work and headed to check into the hotel and drop off our stuff. From there, we had to quickly decide what we wanted to eat – we didn’t want to go too far since it was raining and we were tired from a long week of work. Since it was cold, we decided to go to Yasaka Ramen. It’s a restaurant we’ve been meaning to try for some time, but have always been deterred by the long lines (which I know – must mean it’s good!). But since we were staying in the city over the weekend, it meant we had time to wait…in the cold! 🙌
Thankfully, it wasn’t too bad of a wait – probably about 20-30 minutes or so?
We both had the Kakuni Ramen with simmered pork soft bone and Soft Shell Crab and Edamame Nuggets as sides. When I saw Edamame Nuggets on the menu, I was really intrigued since I love edamame.
The ramen was really good, but very very rich. After a while, it got a bit sickening. Still, it was really yummy! I’d definitely want to try their other ramens next time. As for the sides – the soft shell crab was good but the edamame nuggets let me down 😭 They really didn’t taste like anything except a bit of burnt batter…
Sokyo Breakfast Buffet
Okay, this has been something we’ve been wanting to try for so long BUT since it takes me about 1 hour to get to the city, and I’m lazy during weekends…it’s never completely been feasible for us to go to. But since we were already in the city, Sokyo Breakfast Buffet was something we definitely had to try!!! We went to Sokyo last year for my birthday for dinner and I absolutely loved it! So I had so much hype for their breakfast buffet + à la carte.
The food coma after this breakfast 😴
Rookie mistake – we filled ourselves on the cheese and crackers and waiting for our à la carte lol.
I had the Sumo Breakfast and Chris had the Seafood Bowl. Mine seemed more ‘Western’ than Japanese, but that being said I really love Japanese sausages. I was first introduced to them while we were in Japan and just something about them is so yum. I also loved the tempura hashbrown (though hashbrowns in general are my weakness) and yes…EDAMAME!
We also had an abundance of drinks lol. I had gotten tea, water, orange juice (in that cute bottle in the first photo!) and the also order a Black Sesame Latte. It was really black sesame-y and full of flavour. Despite being lactose intolerant, I drank the whole thing and warned Chris that he was going to be stuck with me all day 😇
After that massive breakfast, we never wanted to see food again and desperately wanted to sleep. We didn’t sleep well on Friday night – I think I found the hotel bed too hard and I kept waking up. Chris has the uncanny ability to wake up the moment I rustle, which unfortunately means that if I’m not sleeping well, he can sense it and mumbles if I’m okay 😍 But the great thing was that we could wake up from our dreams and immediately tell each other before we forgot 😂
But despite our old bodies giving up on us, we explored The Star for a bit, checking out the casino to kill time before heading to the Sports Bar to watch Game 4 of the NBA Finals. We stumbled upon a table that had many people crowding around so we decided to take a peek. I, for the life of me, have never learnt anything about gambling/cards/slots etc. so I had no idea what was going on hahaha.
We settled then to the Sports Bar for the NBA Finals. Okay, so I’ve gotten into NBA for Chris. Before we started officially dating, I tried to learn as much as I could about NBA just so I could have an excuse to have a conversation with him 🙊 Eventually, I’ve picked up a lot from reading on Reddit and honestly have so much respect for the game and players. Especially Lebron James. Gosh. That guy is a beast.
So yes, I was rooting for the underdogs, Cleveland Cavaliers but yeah…it didn’t look like they had much of a chance anyways 😢 Still, it was good to watch and join in the atmosphere.
We decided to leave during half-time (as it looked like yes, the Cavs weren’t going to make it) and walk for a bit to eventually our hotel. I had a quick nap! 👵 And then we set off again to do some shopping!
I’ve been eyeing a few tops at Forever New. In particular:
I fell in love with both tops but decided to only get the navy blue lace to save some money. I’m a sucker for lace and it’s just so pretty!
Feeling bloated and full, we only had a quick snack of Breadtop and Gong Cha milk tea before heading back to the hotel to get ready for dinner.
Yes more food 😍
Um, every single dish was absolutely delicious. I was in absolute food heaven for that hour! My favourite was definitely the Blood Sausage Sanga, Potato Pasta and the Lemon Meringue Burnt Paw.
We then decided to go to Vivid as the weather was holding up 😀 It was meant to be raining the whole weekend but apart from a few sprinkles throughout the day, the weather held which was lucky for us! It thankfully wasn’t too busy and we walked around, enjoy the sights and atmosphere.
Vivid holds special memories to me. It was where Chris and I first kissed. It was where we finally decided to be official.
And this year, it was where Chris proposed to me 😍💍
The proposal was not a surprise but how he did it was. I had initially wondered if he was going to propose this weekend, but thought that he wasn’t because he seemed so casual with his weekend bag so I hadn’t thought the ring would be in there. Turns out it was!
I’m in total love with the ring.
But I’m more in love with my fiance! Thank you Chris, for being such an amazing, supportive partner. You are my best friend, my soul ‘me’ and my guiding star. Honestly, I would be completely lost without you and I’m so, so, SO excited to start our lives together.
So to celebrate we went back to the hotel and decided to get CRUNK. Okay no, that’s not really a thing anymore so I’m told but, we decided to buy some champagne and chocolate and celebrate!
Now, I don’t drink much so I’m a bit of a lightweight. That and because we didn’t eat much while drinking…I unfortunately got a bit tipsy hahaha. I just remember saying the most random things to Chris and he was like yes, yes hun hehehe. We then went to bed and all was well until I woke up suddenly and announced ‘I feel sick’ lol.
Thankfully I didn’t need to vomit or anything but yeah, note to self – remember to eat while you drink!
The next morning I was still a bit queasy but we decided to head to Bondi to Trio Cafe to have brunch!
Unfortunately it was raining but still trekked out there! And I’m so happy that we did because…
Yes, priorities! There were SO MANY CUTE DOGS. I was like OMG LOOK AT THAT ONE, AND THAT ONE, AND THAT ONE! We waited outside Woolworths for a bit until our reservation and hence I got to see these two cuties.
We weren’t sure what to have but decided to share the Trio Tasting Platter. It was a good idea, because we could have a little bit of everything! I really loved everything on this, especially the Corn Fritters. I love fritters and it’s something that I’m definitely going to add to Chris & Jo’s Cooking Adventures.
We couldn’t explore much of Bondi since it was raining but we did head back to Bondi Junction Westfield to walk around there. I finally purchased a new eyeliner – Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner. Well, I didn’t purchase it, Chris did (thanks hun!) but yeahhhh. I’m slowly trying to get into makeup, or at least build a good staple of base products.
We went to visit Chris’ old workplace, though he didn’t recognise anyone there so we did an awkward loop around the shop then left 😁
We both weren’t feeling that great, possibly due to the weather, so we headed back and napped. Yes, that’s our lives. Eat. Sleep. Repeat 😂 We chilled in our hotel room for a bit and decided what we were going to eat for dinner. Hard decisions!
Eventually, we went to Mamak and initially was deterred by the long line so we left, only to go back again hahaha. It worked out in the end since a lot of the people in the line were big groups and we only had 2 people, so we jumped ahead yay!
I forgot to take a picture of my roti and Chicken Satay Skewers 😭😱 Needless to say, it was absolutely delicious. I love roti and Chicken Satay Skewers (that peanut sauce!!!).
The next day we had to head back but not before a quick McDonald’s breakfast 😂 HASHBROWN, YAY!
Thank you Chris for such an amazing, yummy weekend with good food and even better company! 😍
